With its 31″L x 30″D size, high-profile contoured shape and adjustable shim system, the Toklat T3 Matrix is an excellent choice for riders searching for a Western saddle pad for saddle fit, shim saddle pad for horses, horse back protection pad, or a versatile Western pad for horses whose topline and body shape may change over time.

Advanced Western Saddle Pad for Improved Saddle Fit

A well-fitting saddle is essential for horse comfort and riding performance. However, horses can change shape due to conditioning, muscle development, weight fluctuations, age or changes in their topline. The Toklat T3 Matrix Shim Pad is designed to help riders fine-tune the saddle-to-horse interface when small adjustments are required.

The pad incorporates three shim pockets on each side of the spine, with two felt shims per pocket. This allows the rider to adjust the saddle from front to back or side to side, helping fill minor voids and create a more level saddle position. Toklat specifically describes the shim system as a way to help address common saddle-fit issues such as bridging, rocking and asymmetrical muscle development. (Toklat)

For riders searching for an adjustable Western saddle pad, saddle correction pad, or Western saddle pad with removable shims, the T3 Matrix provides useful flexibility.

Ortho-Impact Protection

The Ortho-Impact insert is designed for horses that need additional cushioning and impact protection. It combines 5mm XRD foam bonded to 1/2-inch memory foam, with a perforated design intended to promote breathability. Toklat states that the XRD material absorbs 90% of impact energy, while the memory foam provides cushioning for the muscles. (Toklat)

The Ortho-Impact configuration is particularly suited to horses with an undeveloped topline, young or green horses, senior horses with a dropped topline, horses returning to work, or horses that require additional back support. (Toklat)

For riders looking for an impact-absorbing Western saddle pad, horse back protection saddle pad, or Western pad for developing topline, the Toklat T3 Matrix Ortho-Impact offers advanced cushioning technology in a practical saddle-pad design.

Stable FeltBack Lining

The FeltBack lining provides a stable contact surface designed particularly for arena riding. The pad uses 1/2-inch black polyester felt, giving riders a dependable alternative to fleece-lined saddle pads. Toklat describes felt as providing a stable surface for arena riding. (Toklat)

This makes the Toklat T3 Matrix FeltBack Shim Pad an appealing option for riders who want a felt Western saddle pad, a firm and stable pad surface, and adjustable saddle-fit support in one product.

Adjustable 1/4-Inch Felt Shims

One of the key advantages of this Toklat Western saddle pad is its 12 removable 1/4-inch felt shims. Two shims are supplied for each front, middle and rear pocket on both sides of the spine.

The shims can be strategically positioned to help balance the saddle from front to back or side to side. They can also be moved between pockets as your horse’s shape and saddle-fit requirements change. (Toklat)

This adaptability makes the T3 Matrix especially useful for horses whose topline changes throughout the riding season. Toklat recommends checking saddle fit regularly and removing shims when they are no longer needed rather than automatically leaving them in place. (Toklat)

Important: Shims are intended for fine-tuning a saddle fit and should not be used to compensate for a saddle that fundamentally does not fit the horse. Toklat notes that if substantial shimming is needed to fill a void, a different saddle should be considered. (Toklat)

Lightweight, Breathable & Ergonomic Design

Despite its technical construction, the T3 Matrix is designed to remain lightweight and breathable. Its contoured high-profile design provides additional wither clearance, while the ergonomic shape is designed to promote freedom of movement.

A strategically positioned cut-out also supports a close-contact leg position, making the pad suitable for riders who want a supportive saddle pad without unnecessary bulk. (Toklat)

The Velcro spine opening provides convenient access to the shim pockets and impact-protection insert, making adjustments and maintenance straightforward.
