Trail and endurance riding can involve several hours in the saddle, changing terrain and extended periods of movement. A suitable saddle should provide the rider with a stable and comfortable position while allowing the horse to move freely.

Use this saddle for:
- Endurance riding

Flex2 Tree Technology
A key feature of the Circle Y Virginia 1588 is its Flex2 tree.
Circle Y’s Flex2 technology is designed to provide the structure and support of a Western saddle while incorporating controlled flexibility. This can be appealing to riders looking for a flexible-tree saddle for trail and endurance riding.
However, a Flex2 tree does not mean that the saddle will automatically fit every horse.
Horse conformation varies considerably. Before using the saddle, assess the individual horse’s:
- Withers
- Shoulder width
- Back shape
- Spinal clearance
- Rib cage
- Tree requirements
- Back length
- Movement
Professional saddle-fitting advice is recommended when there is uncertainty about fit.
Ideal for Gaited Horses
The Virginia Endurance Trail Gaiter Saddle 1588 is an appealing option for riders searching for a gaited horse saddle.
Gaited horses have individual movement patterns and conformation characteristics, so saddle selection should focus on the specific horse rather than breed alone.
A properly fitted saddle should allow natural shoulder movement and avoid excessive pressure along the horse’s back.
Whether you ride a gaited horse for trail pleasure, recreational riding or longer-distance adventures, the Virginia 1588 can be considered as part of a Western trail tack setup.
Endurance & Long-Distance Riding
Endurance riding requires careful attention to horse and rider comfort, saddle fit and equipment selection.
During longer rides, the rider should be able to maintain a balanced position without unnecessary pressure or restriction. The horse should also remain comfortable and able to move naturally.
The Circle Y Virginia Flex2 is suited to riders searching for an endurance trail saddle, long-distance riding saddle or comfortable Western trail saddle.
For competitive endurance riding, always ensure the saddle complies with the rules of the relevant organisation or event.
Rider Comfort & Stability
A stable riding position is particularly important during extended trail rides.
The Virginia Flex2 provides a supportive Western-style platform designed for outdoor riding. Correct seat sizing and saddle adjustment can help the rider maintain balance while navigating hills, uneven ground and changing terrain.
Rider comfort is individual, so the saddle should be selected according to your body proportions, riding position and personal preference.
Correct Saddle Fit for the Horse
Even a specialised trail or endurance saddle needs to fit the individual horse correctly.
Before riding, check:
Wither Clearance: Ensure adequate clearance around the withers.
Shoulder Freedom: The horse should be able to move its shoulders without restriction.
Spinal Clearance: The saddle should not interfere with the horse’s spine.
Tree Fit: Confirm that the Flex2 tree is suitable for the horse’s back.
Balance: The saddle should sit evenly rather than tipping excessively forward or backward.
Stability: The saddle should remain secure during movement.
Pressure Distribution: Weight should be appropriately distributed across the saddle’s contact areas.
