15″ to 17″ Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908 | Premium Western Saddle for Wide & Short-Backed Horses

Buy the Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908 from Euro Western Saddlery

Finding a comfortable western saddle for a wide-backed, short-backed or mutton-withered horse can be challenging. The 15″ to 17″ Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908 is designed for riders who need extra width and a compact saddle footprint without compromising rider comfort, stability or classic western style. 15″ to 17″ Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908 near me

Built around a Steele Equi-Fit Haflinger tree, the Big Horn 908 is particularly suited to broad, round horses such as Haflingers, Foundation Quarter Horses, Mustangs and other horses with low withers and substantial back width. Its approximately 24-inch round skirt is especially useful for horses with shorter backs. (Horse Saddle Shop)

Available from Euro Western Saddlery, this trail saddle is an excellent option for New Zealand riders searching for an extra-wide western saddle, Big Horn saddle, Haflinger saddle, wide horse saddle, short-back saddle or comfortable trail riding saddle.

Designed for Wide & Short-Backed Horses

The 15″ to 17″ Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908 stands apart from many conventional western saddles with its ExtraWide tree and compact 24-inch round skirt. This shorter profile can be particularly helpful when a longer western saddle would extend too far along a horse’s back. (Horse Saddle Shop)

The design is well suited to horses with:

• Broad backs
• Short backs
• Low or mutton withers
• Thick shoulders
• Round body shape
• Stocky western-type conformation

It can be a useful option for Haflingers, Foundation Quarter Horses, Mustangs and other horses with similar conformation. Saddle fit is individual, however, so professional fitting is recommended before regular use. 15″ to 17″ Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908

Steele Equi-Fit Haflinger Tree

The Big Horn 908 uses a Steele Equi-Fit Haflinger tree with a 7.5-inch gullet, designed to accommodate broad, round-backed horses. (Horse Saddle Shop)

This makes the saddle particularly attractive to New Zealand horse owners who have struggled to find a standard western saddle with sufficient width.

Fit-focused features include:

• Extra-wide tree
• 7.5-inch gullet
• Haflinger-style tree
• Short 24-inch round skirt
• Broad-shoulder accommodation
• Trail-focused design

Remember that gullet width alone does not determine saddle fit. Bar angle, back shape, shoulder position, wither profile and saddle balance must also be considered. 15″ to 17″ Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908

Comfortable Quilted & Padded Suede Seat

Long trail rides require a comfortable and secure rider position. The Big Horn 908 features a quilted, padded suede seat designed to provide cushioning and support while riding. The published specification lists a 4-inch cantle, helping provide additional seat support. (Horse Saddle Shop)

Whether you’re enjoying a relaxed ride through the New Zealand countryside or spending a full day on the trail, the supportive seat is designed with rider comfort in mind.

A-Fork Design for Greater Leg Freedom

The Big Horn 908 features an A-fork swell, an alternative to the more common swell-fork design found on many western trail saddles.

The A-fork construction can give riders greater freedom around the legs and a less restrictive feel while maintaining the structure of a western saddle. This can be appealing to riders who prefer increased range of motion for leg cues. (Cowboy Way)

Whether an A-fork or swell fork is preferable is largely a matter of rider preference and intended use.

Compact 24-Inch Round Skirt

The 24-inch round skirt is one of the key advantages of the Big Horn 908.

A shorter saddle footprint can be beneficial for horses with limited back length, reducing the risk of choosing a western saddle with an excessively long skirt. This makes the model especially relevant for wide, compact and short-backed horses. (Horse Saddle Shop)

Classic Western Styling

The Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908 combines practical trail performance with traditional western aesthetics. 15″ to 17″ Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908

The design features:

• Floral tooling
• Border tooling
• Silver conchos
• Rich chestnut finish
• Hand-rubbed edges
• Traditional western horn
• Leather and suede construction

Its detailed finish gives the saddle a distinctive appearance for trail riding, recreational riding and western horsemanship.

15″ to 17″ Rider Seat Sizes

The Big Horn 908 is available in:

• 15-inch seat
• 16-inch seat
• 17-inch seat

The quilted, padded suede seat is designed to provide a comfortable riding platform. (Horse Saddle Shop)

Choosing the correct western saddle seat size is important for rider balance and comfort. Consider your body proportions, riding style and current saddle size when selecting your preferred option. 15″ to 17″ Big Horn Extra Wide Trail Saddle 908
